Research Positions

Research assistantship funded by National Science Foundation, Biocomplexity in the Environment, Dynamics of Coupled Natural and Human Systems, “Long-Term Socioecological Change in the American Southwest and Northern Mexico” (January 2006 to August 2008). PI: Margaret Nelson.  Characterized climate variation and hazards in five culture areas through a synthesis of available research and original work.  Co-author on three resulting peer-reviewed publications.   

Research assistantship funded by National Science Foundation grant: “Alliance and Landscape: Perry Mesa, Arizona in the Fourteenth Century” (September 2008 to December 2008). PI: David Abbott and Katherine Spielmann.  Produced book chapter: “Climatic, Demographic, and Environmental Influences on Central Arizona Settlement Patterns” and presented three related papers at professional conferences.  

Research assistantship funded by the James S. McDonnell Foundation Twenty-first Century Research Award/Studying Complex Systems, “Spatiotemporal Aspects of Resilience in Complex Urban Systems” (August 2002–May 2003). PI: Ann Kinzig and Charles Redman.  Produced sole-authored paper in American Antiquity (Ingram 2008) and managed project to produce an historic vegetation map of Maricopa County, Arizona circa 1868 from historical survey data. 

Research assistantship funded by Center for Environmental Studies and the Archaeological Research Institute, Arizona State University (August 2001 to May 2002).  Created a resource library and database of existing paleoecological data from Maricopa County, Arizona and assisted in archaeological curation activities and public outreach. 

Project team member for ASU working group of the Integrated History and Future of People on Earth (IHOPE) project. Developed data for project.  Attended data development meeting, Santa Fe Institute (Summer 2008). 

Archaeological field experiences:  (1) Field Crew Supervisor, Ohio Hopewell Craft Production Project, ASU (summer 2005); (2) Field Intern, Crow Canyon Archaeological Center, Cortez, Colorado (summer 2004); (3) Crew member, field school student.  Virginia City, Montana.  University of Montana (August 2001); (4) Crew member, field school student.  Mitchell Springs, Cortez, Colorado.  Glendale Community College (June 2001).
